BCPVPA Partnership Awards
The BCPVPA is now accepting nominations from Chapters for its annual Partnership Awards. The Awards recognize the valuable support provided to principals, vice-principals, teachers and students by a variety of people and organizations who share their time, energy and expertise to support schools. Previous winners have included individuals (such as Edward Johnson of Peace River South for his exemplary dedication to engaging students in outdoor activities), organizations (such as the Creston Valley Rotary), small businesses (Heather and Shawn Stewin, owners of the Hope Panago Pizza), and large companies (Teck Coal, Elk Valley Operations). Nomination forms must be completed and returned by March 16, 2012 and the Awards will be presented at the May 2012 Chapter Council meeting.
BCPVPA-sponsored research study on full day Kindergarten is now available online
Submitted by rwilliams on Thu, 09/01/2011 - 10:49Taking the Pulse: Full Day K in British Columbia Year One, a BCPVPA-sponsored research report, conducted by Dr. Janet Mort, is now available online. The report covers 12 case studies in 11 districts and involved 11 BCPVPA members as researchers and 12 full-day kindergarten (FDK) teachers. The study was designed to document, communicate and support the development of Early Learning programs in schools, with the goal of promoting maximum success for young children. According to Dr. Mort, while case studies on the implementation of FDK illuminated issues, “teachers and administrators addressed them creatively, quickly and successfully.” She also wrote that, “in my 40 years as an educator I have not witnessed a major education change so enthusiastically implemented by both teachers and administrators.” BCPVPA President Jameel Aziz noted, “The results of the research will help to guide the creation and maintenance of the best possible play-based learning environment for our youngest students and help to improve student achievement in the years ahead.”

Supporting the introduction of full-day Kindergarten
Submitted by admin on Wed, 12/15/2010 - 13:15The Ministry of Education, in partnership with the British Columbia Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association and the British Columbia Primary Teachers’ Association has developed a series of exemplar videos for principals, vice-principals, teachers and district staff. Developed as a supplement to the Full Day Kindergarten Program Guide, the videos provide insightful examples of rich, age-appropriate activities and learning environments for kindergarten students. The Leadership Standards for Principals and Vice-Principals in British Columbia

The intended purpose of the leadership standards is to provide a framework for professional preparation and growth of aspiring and practicing principals and vice-principals. The structure of the leadership standards describe effective, observable leadership actions which can be used for self-assessment, self-reflection and as the basis for personal professional growth planning.
The purpose of this document is for the fostering of continuous professional learning in working towards effective leadership. It is not intended as an instrument for evaluation or the judgement of the individual performance of principals and vice-principals by districts. The Standards as they are written do not lend themselves to evaluation procedures as they are generic, context dependent and aspirational.
