BCPVPA-sponsored research study on full day Kindergarten is now available online

Taking the Pulse: Full Day K in British Columbia Year One, a BCPVPA-sponsored research report, conducted by Dr. Janet Mort, is now available online. The report covers 12 case studies in 11 districts and involved 11 BCPVPA members as researchers and 12 full-day kindergarten (FDK) teachers. The study was designed to document, communicate and support the development of Early Learning programs in schools, with the goal of promoting maximum success for young children. According to Dr. Mort, while case studies on the implementation of FDK illuminated issues, “teachers and administrators addressed them creatively, quickly and successfully.” She also wrote that, “in my 40 years as an educator I have not witnessed a major education change so enthusiastically implemented by both teachers and administrators.” BCPVPA President Jameel Aziz noted, “The results of the research will help to guide the creation and maintenance of the best possible play-based learning environment for our youngest students and help to improve student achievement in the years ahead.”
